Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has openly criticized President William Ruto’s recent State of the Nation Address (SONA), alleging a disregard for the rule of law and accusing the President of misleading Kenyans on key development projects.
Speaking at a united opposition rally in Lunyinya, Malava, Kalonzo claimed President Ruto failed to address ongoing concerns regarding state officers’ active involvement in by-election campaigns. “The rule of law is being undermined while the President remains silent,” he said.
Kalonzo further cited the resignation of the President of the Law Society of Kenya, Faith Odhiambo, from Ruto’s Panel of Experts on Compensation of Victims of Demonstrations and Public Protests, as evidence of the administration’s disregard for legal and ethical standards.
The Wiper leader also accused President Ruto of taking undue credit for projects funded by foreign partners. He highlighted the High Grand Falls Hydroelectric Power Station, which he claimed was agreed upon with European partners during Ruto’s meeting with the UK Prime Minister in Egypt, but is now being presented as a Public-Private Partnership project. “This is the kind of lies that Kenyans are tired of,” Kalonzo said.
Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale, who joined the opposition rally, criticized the President for neglecting challenges in the education sector, claiming that the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) is failing across the country.
The opposition also condemned the involvement of President Ruto’s Personal Assistant, Farouk Kibet, in actively campaigning for UDA candidate David Ndakwa in Malava, describing it as inappropriate for a state official.
Kalonzo urged residents to support DAP-K candidate Seth Panyako, emphasizing that a win in Malava would demonstrate the strength and unity of the opposition. He also highlighted the experience of opposition leaders, asserting that they possess the capability to lead the country effectively.
Other leaders at the rally included Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa, and DCP Deputy Party Leader Cleophas Malala.
The rally underscored the opposition’s efforts to consolidate support in Western Kenya ahead of upcoming elections, signaling a continued pushback against the government’s narrative.
