Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has firmly rejected overtures from Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, asserting that he will only align politically with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua in the push to unseat President William Ruto’s administration.
Speaking during a church service in Ngong’ on Sunday, Kalonzo condemned the ruling Kenya Kwanza regime as a “blood-based government,” citing the recent killing of protester Albert Ojwang’ and the deaths of several Gen Z demonstrators. He accused Kindiki, the former Interior Cabinet Secretary, of failing to take accountability for the violence witnessed during the youth-led protests.
“You (Kindiki) should have apologised to Kenyans because you were the Interior Minister when Gen Zs were killed. Let’s start there. Then also apologize for Ojwang’s killing because you are the Deputy President,” Kalonzo stated.
The Wiper leader took issue with Kindiki’s recent remarks during a tour of the Ukambani region, where the Deputy President praised Kalonzo’s leadership and hinted at possible collaboration. Kalonzo dismissed the comments, stating he will not be used as a political bait to sway Ukambani voters.
“Stop using my name. Even Ruto knows that if there is a tough opponent who will face him in the ballot in the next election, it is Kalonzo Musyoka,” he said, affirming his intentions to run in the 2027 presidential election.
Kalonzo reiterated his commitment to “The United Opposition,” a coalition he said is dedicated to ensuring a democratic transition from the Ruto-led government. He praised Rigathi Gachagua as “a truthful man,” signalling a growing political bond between the two former opponents, now seemingly united by a common goal to challenge Ruto’s presidency.
In a strong rebuke, Kalonzo called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of Deputy Inspector General Eliud Lagat, whom he linked to Ojwang’s death.
The remarks mark a significant shift in opposition dynamics, as Kalonzo and Gachagua continue to present a united front against the Kenya Kwanza administration in the wake of nationwide protests and rising public discontent.
