The united opposition’s tour of Western Kenya, led by Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Deputy President-turned-critic Rigathi Gachagua, enters its final day today after a spirited outreach across Vihiga and Kakamega counties. The tour is part of the opposition’s broader national campaign aimed at galvanizing public support under what they term as a “liberation cause” for the country.
The two leaders, accompanied by other key opposition figures including Democratic Action Party–Kenya (DAP-K) leader Eugene Wamalwa, former Attorney General Justin Muturi, and former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i have sought to unite discontented citizens around calls for justice, accountability, and national cohesion.
On Wednesday, the delegation engaged residents in several towns within Vihiga and Kakamega counties. Their message centered on addressing perceived government injustices and mobilizing grassroots support for systemic reforms. The opposition leaders emphasized their commitment to standing with Kenyans in the face of economic hardship and alleged state repression.
Speaking during a rally in Kakamega, Kalonzo Musyoka underscored the unity and resilience of the region. “Yesterday in Vihiga and Kakamega, we witnessed the strength of people who want better and deserve better,” he said. He also condemned attempts to disrupt their rallies, stating, “Goons were sent to block us, but they were met by the brave and patriotic Gen Z front, who stood tall and unshaken.”
Gachagua, once a senior figure in the Kenya Kwanza administration, used his social media platforms to express appreciation for the people’s warm reception. “We wrapped up day one of our Western tour and met with an ecstatic crowd in Malaha, Navakholo Constituency, Kakamega County,” he wrote. “Your enthusiasm fuels our journey toward a better Kenya. The energy and support are truly inspiring.”
As the final leg of the tour unfolds, political observers are closely watching the opposition’s ability to sustain momentum and build a credible alternative narrative. With growing public frustration over economic conditions and governance, the Kalonzo-Gachagua alliance seeks to position itself as a people-driven force for national transformation.
