Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has firmly rejected claims suggesting he is in secret talks with President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza government. Speaking during the unveiling of Wiper candidates for the upcoming by-elections, Kalonzo branded the allegations as mere rumours and “foolishness.”
“Forget that foolishness. People will talk; they are our fellow Kenyans. They have the right to imagine. If wishes were horses, beggars would ride,” Kalonzo said in response to questions about a supposed plot to weaken the opposition.
The Wiper boss confirmed his party would field candidates in Ugunja, Kasipul, Kabondo, and Magarini—seats where ODM has also placed contenders. His move sets up fresh political battles with Raila Odinga’s Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), particularly in Kasipul, an area regarded as an ODM stronghold.
Kalonzo’s stance comes amid heightened speculation about his political positioning. Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen recently hinted that Kalonzo should consider joining forces with President Ruto. However, the former Vice President has reiterated his commitment to staying in opposition and challenging the Kenya Kwanza administration.
During the press briefing, Kalonzo also disclosed that Raila Odinga had invited him to attend ODM’s 20th anniversary celebration. While expressing respect for Raila, Kalonzo made it clear he would not attend.
“Raila wrote me a nice letter inviting me to his event. I’m going to tell him that on the 10th, we will have the Wiper National Delegates Conference. I wish them well, but I will not be there,” he explained.
Kalonzo further dismissed suggestions that his party would face victimisation for competing in Kasipul. Instead, he expressed confidence in campaigning freely across Luo Nyanza.
“I will go to campaign anywhere in Luo Nyanza. These are our friends; they know our history. No amount of intimidation will come my way. I really cherish defeating both ODM and UDA in Kasipul,” he stated.
