Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has strongly criticised the National Police Service (NPS) following their claim that Juja MP George Koimburi staged his own abduction. Speaking at the Karen Hospital on Tuesday, where the legislator is currently receiving treatment, Kalonzo expressed disbelief and outrage at the suggestion, describing it as both shameful and insensitive.
“Shame on anybody who thinks a mheshimiwa can abduct himself,” Kalonzo declared. “When you hear such stories, you really want to pray for those people because they are evil. You see the torn clothes, he is lucky to be alive.”
Koimburi was reportedly abducted on Sunday evening in the Mugutha area and was found nearly 12 hours later, dumped in the Jacaranda coffee plantation in Kibichoi, Kiambu County. He was picked up by Good Samaritans and rushed to hospital for treatment.
The police, however, cast doubt on the authenticity of the abduction. In a statement issued on Monday, the NPS said preliminary investigations suggested the incident might have been staged. They also denied any involvement in either his disappearance or reappearance. Investigators have since visited several locations, including a church Koimburi reportedly attended before the alleged abduction, the site where he was found, and two hospitals where he received medical attention.
Koimburi’s driver was arrested and taken to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters, where he reportedly told investigators that the MP had instructed him to drop him off upon learning that police intended to arrest him over a land case under investigation.
Despite the ongoing police probe, Kalonzo insists the matter should be treated with the seriousness it deserves. “He’s an elected leader; the trauma he has gone through cannot be ignored. This isn’t something to joke about,” Kalonzo said.
Police Spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga maintained that investigations are underway and affirmed the service’s commitment to uncovering the truth and ensuring justice is served.
As the controversy unfolds, the public awaits the outcome of the investigations to determine whether Koimburi was indeed a victim or orchestrator of the dramatic incident.
