Wiper Democratic Movement leader Kalonzo Musyoka has confirmed that former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua will not be part of the Opposition delegation visiting Opoda Farm in Bondo to pay their last respects to the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
Speaking during a press briefing in Kisumu on Wednesday, Kalonzo stated that he had spoken with Gachagua, who assured him of his intention to visit the Odinga family at a later date.
“Riggy G and others will also look for time to come here and mourn with the Odinga family,” Kalonzo said, noting that Gachagua’s current schedule could not allow him to join the Thursday delegation.
Kalonzo, who is leading the team of Opposition leaders to Bondo, reaffirmed that the coalition remains united despite Gachagua’s absence.
“Martha Karua, George Natembeya, Eugene Wamalwa, Riggy G, and I are all united,” he emphasized, adding that some leaders were tied up with preparations for the upcoming November 27 by-elections.
The Wiper leader arrived at Raila’s rural home in the company of Ukambani clan elders, professionals, bishops, MPs, and other party officials. He described Raila Odinga as a visionary leader whose lifelong struggle for democracy transformed Kenya’s political landscape.
“Today I have come to mourn my brother Raila Amollo Odinga, with whom we went to the trenches to give this country a good, reputable, respected democracy,” Kalonzo stated emotionally.
Kalonzo praised Raila’s enduring influence, calling him the “father of maandamano,” and highlighted how his courage against bad governance continues to inspire generations of Kenyans.
As the nation continues to reflect on Raila’s remarkable legacy, Opposition leaders reiterated their commitment to uphold the democratic ideals he championed.
