Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has called for the unity and empowerment of the Western region, declaring that the area “deserves better” from the current political leadership. Kalonzo made the remarks on Thursday as the United Opposition kicked off a two-day political tour of the Western region, beginning in Kakamega County.
The tour, framed as part of a wider national campaign for a “liberation cause,” aims to rally public support against what opposition leaders call growing injustices and authoritarianism under the current administration. Kalonzo was flanked by key opposition figures, including DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa, DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua, former Attorney General Justin Muturi, and ex-Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i.
Speaking at the end of the Kakamega leg of the tour, Kalonzo said despite attempts by government-aligned forces to disrupt the event, the resilience of young Kenyans prevailed. “Goons were sent to block us, but they faced the brave and patriotic Gen Z front who stood razor-tall,” Kalonzo stated. “Primitive politics of fear and sabotage must end. To the people of Western, you deserve better.”
The opposition leaders reiterated their commitment to walking with Kenyans in their pursuit of justice, accountability, and democratic reforms. Kalonzo insisted the opposition would not be silenced or distracted by misinformation or intimidation. “We will not be silenced. We will not be distracted. The people are watching and so are we,” he declared.
The Western Kenya tour comes on the heels of a massive opposition gathering in Narok County on June 30, where Rigathi Gachagua described the turnout as a “sea of humanity” and vowed to continue pressing for reforms. “There is great hope and light ahead that our nation will be free again,” Gachagua said, denouncing alleged abductions, extrajudicial killings, and disregard for the rule of law.
The growing momentum of the United Opposition, marked by increased county visits and rallies, signals a rising tide of public dissatisfaction and a push for a new political direction ahead of future national contests.
