Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka has issued a stern warning to political leaders, stating that complacency and weak leadership could lead to a mass ouster in the 2027 general elections. Speaking at the Inter-Party Cooperation For The Young Generation Forum on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, Kalonzo emphasized that the electorate is increasingly demanding accountability.
“Now, if you’re spineless, I tell you, the practice of Kenyans after every five years is clear: over 80% of leaders, members of parliament, and the Senate go home,” Kalonzo said, highlighting the risk for those who fail to serve citizens diligently.
He described the upcoming elections as potentially transformative if leaders continue to ignore public interest. “It looks to me that this time is going to be a clean sweep because Kenyans won,” Kalonzo stated, underscoring the power of voters to demand change and integrity.
Kalonzo challenged lawmakers to demonstrate commitment to their duties, reminding them that authority comes with responsibility. “The people are not blind; they see when leaders act out of self-interest, when they ignore duties, or when they fail to stand for what is right. Those who do not take this seriously may find themselves out of office,” he added.
The veteran politician also highlighted the long-standing issues of corruption and weak governance that have hindered national development. He argued that Kenya needs strong institutions, not strong individuals, pointing to bodies like the EACC and questioning their effectiveness and independence.
Critiquing the government’s approach to corruption, Kalonzo said that despite President William Ruto’s efforts to establish a multitasking agency, some parliamentarians have failed to uphold accountability. “After telling members of parliament, ‘You’re all corrupt,’ they all left. You can give a dog a bad name and then kill it. This is the challenge we face,” he noted.
Kalonzo’s remarks serve as a wake-up call for political leaders to prioritize integrity, strengthen institutions, and genuinely serve the Kenyan people ahead of the 2027 elections.
