The KANU Youth Congress has distanced itself from party chairman Gideon Moi’s recent decision to align with President William Ruto’s broad-based government initiative. In a statement issued on Tuesday, October 14, the youth wing declared that Moi’s partnership with the ruling administration does not reflect the party’s core values.
“We, the KANU Youth Congress, fully dissociate from the newfound partnership between our National Chairman, Hon. Gideon Kipsielei Towett Moi, and H.E. President William Ruto,” the statement read in part.
The youth leaders affirmed their commitment to promoting accountability, transparency, human rights, and the rule of law principles they claim are lacking in the current administration. They further emphasized that no political alliance could rescue a regime that undermines constitutional governance.
The Congress voiced concerns about issues such as forced disappearances, extrajudicial killings, corruption, and the erosion of democratic institutions. Instead, they called on the government to prioritize critical issues affecting citizens, including the crisis in the health sector, affordable education, job creation for youth, and industrial growth.
“Solely consolidating the political class under the umbrella of a ‘broad-based government’ is not only a fallacy but also the kicks of a dying horse,” the statement added. “We need a functioning system, revived social services, and a fair employment environment.”
The youth wing’s strong position comes just days after President Ruto announced that KANU would be joining the broad-based cabinet. While addressing delegates in Baringo County on October 10, Ruto revealed that he had personally reached out to Gideon Moi to foster reconciliation and national unity.
“I reached out to my brother so that we can help move the country forward. If there is any problem, do not blame Moi—blame me,” the President stated.
However, the KANU Youth Congress remains adamant that integrity and public interest must take precedence over political realignments.
