Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Youth League leader Kasmuel McOure has taken a swipe at Kenya’s opposition leaders, accusing them of lacking the intellectual depth and strategic vision necessary to engage and inspire the country’s youth.
Speaking on a local television show on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, McOure argued that modern politics operates under principles of game theory — a framework where every player anticipates the moves of others to gain a strategic advantage.
“We need to understand that there is something called game theory. In broad strokes, it assumes that life is a series of strategic interactions. In the electoral sense, the voter, the media, the parties, and the contestants all anticipate each other’s moves,” he said.
McOure criticised the opposition for failing to apply such strategic thinking, making them predictable and uninspiring to young people.
“The people who are calling themselves opposition right now are intellectually lazy to the point where young people are not inspired to get a wave that is going to drive them in a particular basket,” he stated.
His remarks come as the IEBC urged residents in Uasin Gishu to register as voter turnout remains low, a reflection, McOure suggested, of weak opposition mobilisation.
The youthful ODM leader has been vocal about youth empowerment within politics. On August 7, 2025, he encouraged young Kenyans to join the ODM Youth League, describing it as a space for ideological growth and leadership development under Raila Odinga’s mentorship.
“If you’re young and want to be great at something, show up every day. Don’t be afraid to look silly for trying. That’s where the growth is,” McOure noted.
He added that curiosity, persistence, and humility are essential traits for the next generation of leaders. McOure officially joined ODM on November 10, 2024, and has since positioned himself as a passionate advocate for youth participation in national politics.
