Kenya has officially inaugurated its Consulate General in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, marking a major milestone in strengthening diplomatic and economic relations between the two nations. The event, held on Monday, November 3, was presided over by the Principal Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Korir Sing’Oei, on behalf of the Government of Kenya.
Dr. Sing’Oei emphasized that the new establishment reflects President William Ruto’s directive to expand Kenya’s diplomatic footprint in strategic global locations. “Today we officially inaugurated the Consulate General of the Republic of Kenya in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, marking a major milestone in the strengthening of diplomatic, economic, and people-to-people relations between Kenya and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia,” he said.
The opening of the Consulate is aligned with Kenya’s Foreign Policy and the government’s commitment to improving service delivery to its citizens living abroad. It will complement the existing Kenyan Embassy in Riyadh by serving Kenyans residing in the western regions of Saudi Arabia, including Jeddah, Makkah, and Madinah.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by senior officials, including Fareed Al-Sheihri, Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the Makkah Region, Ambassador Designate to Saudi Arabia Joseph Masila, Consul General in Jeddah Amb. Aden Mohammed, and outgoing Ambassador to Riyadh Amb. Mohammed Ruwange. Members of the diplomatic corps and representatives of the Kenyan diaspora in Saudi Arabia also graced the occasion.
Dr. Sing’Oei noted that the new Consulate will enhance bilateral cooperation, particularly in trade, labour, tourism, education, and cultural exchange. These efforts align with Saudi Vision 2030 and Kenya’s Vision 2030 development blueprints.
During the ceremony, the Consulate’s 2024–2027 Strategic Plan was unveiled, outlining its roadmap to deepen Kenya-Saudi Arabia relations and improve consular services for Kenyans in the region.
