Kericho Governor Eric Mutai has lauded Deputy President Kithure Kindiki for restoring respect and dignity to the second-highest office in Kenya’s leadership hierarchy.
Speaking on Saturday, October 4, 2025, during an economic empowerment engagement in Kipkelion East Constituency, Londiani, Mutai praised Kindiki for his firm yet respectful leadership style.
“I want to say this boldly: you have dignified the office of the Deputy President…umeleta heshima nyingi sana,” Mutai told Kindiki before a cheering crowd.
Mutai further likened Kindiki’s loyalty to President William Ruto to that of the late President Daniel arap Moi, who served faithfully as Vice President under President Jomo Kenyatta. “The way you are supporting President William Ruto is the same way President Moi supported President Jomo Kenyatta,” he added.
Kindiki, formerly Interior Cabinet Secretary, was appointed Deputy President in 2024 following the impeachment of Rigathi Gachagua by the Senate. His swearing-in was briefly delayed by court challenges, but he eventually assumed office after the courts cleared the way.
At the time of his appointment, President Ruto welcomed Kindiki as a dependable partner, stating that his government had lacked such support in its first two years. “I am confident you will do what I have missed,” Ruto said, praising Kindiki’s patriotism and commitment to unity.
The remarks by Governor Mutai come against the backdrop of a widening rift between former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and President Ruto. Gachagua recently accused Ruto’s administration of questionable political decisions and compromising governance ethics. He insisted that his Christian values prevented him from engaging in corrupt activities.
As political dynamics continue to shift, Mutai’s public endorsement of Kindiki highlights growing recognition of his role in stabilizing the presidency and strengthening the Ruto administration.
