Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has received a significant political boost after a section of Kiambu leaders and Agikuyu elders endorsed his bid for the presidency ahead of the 2027 general election.
During a meeting held at Ndura Stadium in Trans Nzoia over the weekend, the elders, led by John Waweru, described Natembeya as a courageous and visionary leader capable of uniting Kenyans beyond tribal lines. They pledged to mobilize support for him across the Mt Kenya region.
“You have entered the Mt Kenya region and shown the willingness to work with us. We now want you to come and do a tour of the mountain so that you can get the support from our people,” Waweru stated during the endorsement.
Natembeya, who also serves as the deputy party leader of the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) alongside party leader Eugene Wamalwa, welcomed the endorsement, saying his mission is to unite opposition voices and restore integrity and inclusivity in leadership.
“When we say Wantam, we do not say so because we hate the President. Ours is a quest to see a better and prosperous Kenya where everyone, regardless of their role or age, feels part of the national progress,” Natembeya said.
The governor has been actively consolidating political support across Western Kenya and now appears to be extending his influence to Mt Kenya. He criticized the trend among Western leaders who declare presidential ambitions only to settle for Cabinet or parliamentary leadership positions.
“It’s because of this repeated pattern, and many other reasons, that we’ve decided it’s time to go for the real seat, the President’s seat. We are ready for Ruto’s position because too many of our leaders have failed to push the Luhya agenda to its rightful place,” Natembeya emphasized.
His endorsement by Kiambu leaders marks a notable shift in Kenya’s political landscape as regional alliances begin to take shape ahead of the 2027 elections.
