Kilifi Governor Gideon Mung’aro is mourning the loss of his father, Mzee Gedion Baya Mung’aro, who passed away on June 15, 2025, while receiving treatment at the Kilifi County Hospital. The late Mzee Mung’aro will be laid to rest on June 25, 2025, at his home in Dabaso village, Watamu.
The funeral program indicates that the cortege will leave Kilifi County Hospital Funeral Home on June 24 for a service and night vigil at his home grounds in Dabaso. The burial will follow the next day in what is expected to be a solemn farewell for a man many have described as a pillar of his family and community.
The news of Mzee Mung’aro’s passing was announced by Governor Mung’aro in an emotional social media post on Father’s Day. “Today, on Father’s Day, I have lost my father, Gideon Baya Mung’aro Senior,” he wrote, recounting the journey they shared together and expressing gratitude for the support his family has received during this painful time.
Mzee Mung’aro was the husband of Beatrice Bahati, the late Joyce Kanze Kombe, Janer Kofedha Darris Bahati, and Loyce Kache. He was a father to a large family that includes Governor Mung’aro, the late Furaha, Masha, Clement, Kadange, Kazungu, Santa, Garama, Masha Bogo, James, Masha Yellow, Masha BK Karisa, John, the late Josephine, Caroline Tabu, Brenda Nyevu, Aneline Salama, the late Sidi, Priscilla, Teresia Kaschana, Everlyne, Lydis Neema, Mercyline Karembo, Celestine Riziki, Grace Rehema, Frida, Elizabeth, the late Sheina, Clara, and Penina Zosi.
Several leaders have sent condolence messages to the Mung’aro family. Mombasa Governor Abdullswamad Sherrif Nassir and Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga extended their sympathies, assuring the family of their solidarity. Cabinet Secretary for Mining and Blue Economy, Hassan Joho, also mourned Mzee Mung’aro, calling his death heartbreaking and offering prayers for comfort.
