Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has announced a renewed government push to revive stalled infrastructure projects across the country in a bid to accelerate grassroots development. Speaking during a development tour of Kitui West Constituency, Kindiki reaffirmed President William Ruto’s administration’s commitment to bottom-up economic transformation through strategic investments in infrastructure.
The Deputy President revealed that the government has committed billions of shillings to complete delayed projects, especially in the roads sector, and initiate new ones to improve connectivity and economic activity. “We have allocated sufficient resources to revive and complete all stalled road projects countrywide and initiate new ones to facilitate easier and effective movement of people and goods,” Kindiki said.
In Kitui County, six major road projects are currently underway. These include the 27-kilometre Kwa Siku–Migwani–Mbondoni Road, which is being constructed at a cost of KSh 3.5 billion, and the Kamuwongo–Kandwia section of the Mwingi–Tseikuru Road, costing KSh 975 million. The Zombe–Chuluni Road is also part of the government’s development blueprint.
Kindiki also confirmed that the long-awaited Enziu Bridge, a vital link in the region, will be completed this year at a cost of KSh 165 million. The bridge is expected to significantly improve transportation and safety for residents.
Beyond road infrastructure, the Deputy President announced the allocation of KSh 2.1 billion to Kitui County under the Last Mile Electricity Connectivity Programme. Of this, KSh 200 million will go directly to Kitui West Constituency to enhance access to electricity and stimulate local economic growth.
In support of inclusive economic empowerment, Kindiki joined other leaders in promoting women-led micro and small enterprises through SACCOs, aligning with the government’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda.
The visit also served as an opportunity for the Deputy President to update residents on ongoing national government projects. He was accompanied by MPs Rachael Nyamai, Mwengi Mutuse, Vincent Musyoka, Fabian Kyule, Senator Beth Syengo, Livestock PS Jonathan Mueke, and members of the Kitui County Assembly led by Speaker Kelvin Katisya.
