During the 2025 Madaraka Day celebrations held at the Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki called on Kenyans to bridge generational divides and work together to build a united and prosperous nation. He emphasized that no generation holds superiority over another, stressing the collective responsibility of all age groups in advancing Kenya’s development.
“We all belong to this country; no generation is superior to the other,” Kindiki declared. “The old have a role to play, the younger people have a role to play, our children have a role to play, and even the unborn will have a role to play in shaping Kenya’s future.”
His remarks come at a time when Kenya is experiencing a surge of youth activism, particularly among Generation Z, who have taken a front seat in demanding better governance, accountability, and economic opportunities. Kindiki acknowledged the contributions of Gen Z, equating their struggle for economic justice with the independence efforts of Kenya’s founding fathers.
“This generation owes the generation that fought for political freedom the debt of fighting for the economic freedom of our country,” he said. “I am satisfied that we are on course to paying that historical debt.”
Kindiki also commended President William Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga for their collaborative efforts to promote national dialogue and inclusivity. He said their engagement sets a solid foundation for dismantling ethnic and religious divisions, ensuring that all Kenyans can thrive regardless of their background.
“It is clear that between yourself and Raila, you are speaking to the nation so we can forge closer ties among citizens of Kenya,” he said, addressing President Ruto.
The 2025 Madaraka Day celebrations were marked under the theme ‘Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs’, reflecting the country’s strategic focus on harnessing marine resources for sustainable development.
As Kenya commemorates its internal self-rule, Kindiki’s message serves as a timely reminder that the path to national prosperity lies in unity, inclusion, and shared responsibility across all generations.
