Deputy President kithure Kindiki has hailed leaders from Northeastern Kenya for working closely with President William Ruto’s administration to fast-track development in the historically marginalized region.
Speaking on Sunday during the Lagdera Constituency Economic Empowerment event in Modogashe, Garissa County, Kindiki said the bipartisan cooperation shown by area leaders, led by Eldas MP Adan Keynan and Dadaab MP Farah Maalim, was crucial in ensuring the region fully benefits from national government projects.
“We appreciate the decision by the leaders to support our President and the government. They are good leaders who love their country. We will work together to develop the region,” Kindiki said.
Earlier in the day, the Deputy President presided over a similar empowerment program at Tarbaj Teachers Training College grounds in Wajir County.
The Kenya Kwanza administration has embarked on major infrastructure projects in Northern Kenya, with roads forming the backbone of ongoing development. Key among them is the LAPSSET corridor road linking Lamu, Garissa, and Isiolo, a 315-kilometer project worth Sh27 billion. Additionally, the 750-kilometer Mandera–Isiolo road, a Sh100 billion investment, is underway and is expected to be completed in 2027. In total, 1,065 kilometers of roads are currently under construction in the region.
Electricity expansion is also being prioritized. The government has allocated Sh1.7 billion to connect 7,200 new households in Garissa County. In Lagdera Constituency alone, Sh380 million is being used to link 2,100 households to the national grid. Furthermore, four hybrid power generation plants in Isiolo, Wajir, and Mandera counties are set to ease long-standing power shortages.
Beyond roads and energy, investments are being channeled into social and economic infrastructure. The state is constructing eight modern markets, six affordable housing projects, and hostels for students at Garissa University, Garissa National Polytechnic, and Technical Training Institutes to boost learning and spur economic growth.
Kindiki assured residents that the Ruto administration remains committed to uplifting marginalized areas, stressing that Northeastern Kenya will not be left behind in national development.
“This region is part of Kenya. Every project happening elsewhere is happening here as well,” he emphasized
