Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has dismissed allegations of a political fallout with Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire, affirming that their relationship remains intact and focused on delivering development to the people of Embu.
Speaking at the National Macadamia Conference 2025 held at Embu University Grounds on Wednesday, Kindiki emphasized that he has no personal or political differences with Mbarire or any other county leader.
“There is no problem whatsoever between me and Governor Cecily Mbarire or any other leader in Embu County,” Kindiki said. “Anyone who knows my relationship with the leaders and people of Embu knows the journey we have travelled together over the years.”
The Deputy President urged residents to disregard the rumours circulating on social media and in political circles, stressing that they should only believe information directly from him or the Governor. He conveyed greetings from Governor Mbarire, adding that she would later address the gathering herself.
“She will come here later and tell you herself that there’s absolutely no worries or problems,” he stated. “We are all focused on delivering to the people of Embu and the country on the commitments we made.”
Kindiki underscored the Kenya Kwanza administration’s commitment to transforming lives through investment in agriculture, infrastructure, job creation, and improved public services.
The remarks come amid rising speculation of a rift, especially after Governor Mbarire, who also serves as the UDA national chairperson, publicly accused senior national government officials of undermining her authority.
During Madaraka Day celebrations on June 1 at Makima Primary School, Mbarire said some officials had been convening political meetings behind her back, actions she termed as disrespectful.
“I will not sit back and watch as backroom political deals are made behind my back,” Mbarire told the crowd.
Ahead of the macadamia conference, Kindiki and Mbarire held a private meeting at the DP’s Karen residence, following another meeting between the Deputy President and Embu County MPs on Tuesday — signaling ongoing efforts to maintain political cohesion within the region.
