Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has thrown his weight behind United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate Leonard Wamuthende, popularly known as Leo, declaring him the most suitable leader to steer Mbeere North Constituency. Kindiki made the endorsement during weekend campaign stops in Ngiiri and Kyenire, where he urged residents to rally behind the ruling party’s candidate in Thursday’s by-election.
According to the Deputy President, Wamuthende has demonstrated a strong grasp of the constituency’s development needs, including road upgrades, expansion of water projects, improved electricity access, and education support. Kindiki said Leo had spent considerable time engaging with local communities and had shown clear commitment to addressing the challenges they raised.
The Deputy President cautioned voters against what he described as attempts by political rivals to derail key government projects currently underway in the area. He insisted that only a UDA-aligned MP could guarantee the completion of multi-billion-shilling projects initiated by the Kenya Kwanza administration.
“We are supporting Wamuthende because we will work with him to complete ongoing government projects in this area,” Kindiki said, adding that previous regimes had neglected Mbeere North and failed to prioritise local development.
Kindiki also highlighted Wamuthende’s pledge to retain and strengthen the constituency’s bursary programme, which supports hundreds of students. He claimed that rival candidates planned to scrap the initiative, warning that such a move would disadvantage many families relying on the fund.
“It is only Leo who has affirmed his support for bursaries for all students. His competitors want to scrap the programme, yet it helps many children in this constituency,” he said.
The Deputy President criticised leaders backing the opposition candidate, accusing them of lacking any meaningful development record during their years in senior government positions. He urged residents not to be swayed by “insults and misinformation” from individuals he said had previously abandoned the area.
Kindiki called on voters to turn out in large numbers and elect Wamuthende, assuring them that the government would appreciate the support and continue prioritising Mbeere North in future development plans.
