Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has launched a scathing attack on his predecessor Rigathi Gachagua, accusing him of clinging to political relevance through “hollow threats, arrogance, and incompetence.”
In a bold social media statement, Kindiki dismissed Gachagua’s recent criticism of the Kenya Kwanza administration as attention-seeking antics, aimed at distracting the public from important national priorities.
“Mr Trap Man, your brief and controversial political career has been characterised by hollow threats, arrogance, and a consistent display of incompetence,” Kindiki stated, in what marks the sharpest escalation yet in the ongoing feud between the two Mt Kenya leaders.
The fallout between the former allies has been building for weeks but boiled over following weekend tours of Meru County. Kindiki accompanied President William Ruto on a development tour, while Gachagua led a parallel event with opposition-aligned politicians. During a church service in Meru, Gachagua accused the President of betrayal and warned that Mt Kenya had abandoned him ahead of the 2027 General Election.
“Forget about this mountain. If you have any plan to be re-elected, in your formula and mathematics, remove the mountain because it is gone forever,” Gachagua declared. “My brother William Ruto, I cannot help you. Don’t blame me, I’m not the cause.”
In response, Kindiki called Gachagua’s warnings misguided and threatened a political showdown.
“While it is clear your intentions are to distract and derail meaningful discourse, we remain committed to our solemn duty of nation-building. But rest assured—we will still find the time to take you head on and obliterate your petty theatrics in the most spectacular and decisive manner,” he warned.
Kindiki’s return to Meru, he added, would be to confront Gachagua and his allies directly.
The public spat underscores growing divisions in the Kenya Kwanza coalition, especially over Mt Kenya’s political direction. As 2027 looms, the fierce battle for the region’s loyalty is rapidly shaping up into a showdown between old allies turned bitter rivals.
