Deputy President Kithure Kindiki on Monday, October 20, 2025, paid a heartfelt tribute to the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga during Mashujaa Day celebrations held at Ithookwe Stadium in Kitui County.
In his address, Kindiki urged Kenyans to reflect on the country’s journey and the sacrifices made by those who dedicated their lives to the nation’s progress. “We’ve gathered today to remember, reflect, and consider where our country has come from,” he said.
Kindiki praised Raila Odinga’s immense contribution to Kenya’s political and democratic evolution, describing him as one of the greatest patriots in the nation’s history. “As we continue to mourn the departure of Raila Odinga, one of the greatest Kenyans to ever walk on our soil, we remember those who have gone before us for selflessly defending our sovereignty,” he remarked.
The Deputy President also emphasized the importance of unity and economic development, calling on Kenyans to build upon the foundations laid by past heroes. “What remains is to strengthen the foundations of our country and the economic well-being of our people,” he added.
The event, graced by President William Ruto, was marked by a colorful and emotional tribute to Raila Odinga. A recording of the late statesman singing his favorite tune, Farewell Jamaica, was played, prompting a moment of reflection across the packed stadium.
Raila Odinga was laid to rest in his Bondo home a day earlier, in a ceremony attended by thousands of mourners, including top political and religious leaders. His burial marked the culmination of a farewell journey that symbolized the nation’s gratitude to a man who devoted his life to justice, democracy, and unity.
As Kenya celebrated its heroes, the memory of Raila Odinga stood tall—a reminder of the enduring legacy of courage, conviction, and patriotism.
