Deputy President Kithure Kindiki on Monday reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the development of the Ukambani region, as he hosted Members of County Assemblies (MCAs) from Kitui, Machakos, and Makueni counties at his official residence in Karen, Nairobi.
In a meeting that highlighted the importance of grassroots leadership, Kindiki praised MCAs for their crucial role in implementing community-centered development initiatives. He assured the leaders of his readiness to collaborate with them to accelerate the delivery of projects across their wards.
“As Deputy President of Kenya, I will not let you down. MCAs from Ukambani and all over Kenya, you can count on me to support you and your people to get maximum benefits from this government,” said Kindiki.
He emphasized that the development of Ukambani is a key pillar in the government’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), which is geared toward revitalizing local economies and improving livelihoods. The DP cited the ongoing revival of long-stalled road projects, the expansion of electricity and water supply, and the construction of modern markets as clear signs of the government’s commitment to the region.
“Ukambani is part of Kenya, and we will develop it. We will fulfil all the promises we have made to the people,” he added, assuring residents that no region will be sidelined in national development.
Kindiki also called on local leaders to actively engage the national government on development issues, encouraging them not to shy away from demanding what their people deserve.
“Useless things like where and who you voted for are behind us. Right now, it is about serving the people. Anything else will come later, but we are focused on making the lives of the people better,” he stated.
The Deputy President further promised to return to the region for more empowerment and development programs targeting youth, women, and small-scale traders.
The meeting is seen as part of ongoing efforts by the government to enhance collaboration with county-level leadership and ensure equitable development across all regions of the country.
