Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has departed Kenya for Algiers, Algeria, to attend the 4th Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF), which runs from Thursday, September 4, to Wednesday, September 10, 2025.
In a statement shared on his Facebook page on Wednesday, September 3, Kindiki confirmed he was leading a delegation of Kenyan representatives to the high-level continental event. The IATF brings together governments, businesses, and investors from across Africa to showcase trade opportunities and strengthen economic collaboration among member states.
Kenya’s participation comes at a time when the government is keen on diversifying its export base and forging new bilateral and multilateral partnerships. The fair provides a platform for Kenyan companies to engage directly with potential partners, explore investment opportunities, and market local products to a wider African audience.
“This engagement is critical for Kenya as we seek to deepen regional integration and build resilient value chains that support industrial growth and job creation,” Kindiki noted before his departure.
The Deputy President is expected to hold meetings with his counterparts from other African nations, with discussions focusing on strengthening intra-African trade and reducing the continent’s dependence on imports from outside markets. Key areas on the agenda for Kenya include agriculture, manufacturing, and digital trade—sectors that the government views as central to economic transformation.
Trade experts argue that such platforms are essential to unlocking the full potential of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). By harmonising trade standards and creating new networks, the fair is seen as a catalyst for economic integration across the continent.
For Kenyan small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), the event offers valuable lessons on how to align with continental standards, access new markets, and scale operations beyond national borders.
The IATF has grown into one of Africa’s most important trade gatherings, and Kenya hopes that deals signed and connections built in Algiers will accelerate ongoing efforts to expand the country’s regional trade footprint.
