Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has intensified the push for President William Ruto’s re-election, dismissing opposition calls for a one-term presidency. Leading a delegation of Kenya Kwanza leaders in Kabartonjo, Baringo County, Kindiki rallied support under the slogan “Tutam” short for “two-term” emphasising Ruto’s development record as justification for a second term in office.
Addressing a congregation at AIC Kabartonjo during a Sunday service led by Bishop William Kotut, Kindiki took a veiled swipe at former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, accusing him of tribal politics and incitement. “If you’re given a big job and you destroy it, that’s your problem. You are tribal and inciting communities,” he remarked.
Kindiki, accompanied by Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot and several MPs from Baringo, Eldama Ravine, and Tiaty, pointed to key government achievements, including the subsidised fertiliser program that reduced prices from Sh7,000 to Sh2,500, the rollout of the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF) now covering over 25 million Kenyans, and the ongoing construction of over 400 modern markets across the country.
He also credited President Ruto for supporting security operations in the North Rift region during his tenure as Interior Cabinet Secretary. “I camped in Baringo to dismantle bandit networks. That could not have happened without the President’s support,” he said.
In response to criticism from Gachagua, who recently branded him ‘Mr Yes Sir’ for his loyalty to Ruto, Kindiki defended his stance. “Some people don’t understand the role of a Deputy President. Supporting the President is exactly my duty,” he said, adding that Ruto had mentored him in leadership.
Kindiki urged locals to remain united and continue praying for the President. “The President has done his best. Let’s support him for a second term and build a better future together,” he concluded.
The Baringo visit marks a significant step in consolidating Rift Valley support for Ruto amid growing political rifts within the Kenya Kwanza coalition.
