Deputy President Kithure Kindiki and Public Service, Human Capital Development and Special Programmes Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku on Monday escalated the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) campaign push in Mbeere North, signalling a heated final stretch ahead of the November 27 by-election.
The two leaders pledged unwavering support for UDA candidate Leonard Muthende, assuring residents that the party’s top leadership stands firmly behind him. Kindiki emphasised that the government is keen on ensuring the constituency benefits fully from ongoing national development programmes.
“I will support you as the Deputy President of Kenya. You will also have the support of the president and all of us because we understand the needs of the people of Mbeere North,” Kindiki told residents during a rally in Siakago.
He urged Muthende to intensify his voter engagement efforts and promised that his leadership would align closely with government priorities for infrastructure, youth empowerment and social services.
CS Ruku echoed the DP’s sentiments, urging voters to reject leaders who rely on insults and divisive rhetoric. He noted that residents are increasingly demanding better education, more opportunities for young people, and a stronger focus on service delivery.
However, the contest remains far from settled.
Earlier in the day, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua led a spirited door-to-door campaign for Democratic Party (DP) candidate Newton Karish, marking a direct challenge to UDA’s influence in the region. Gachagua, accompanied by former AG and ex-CS Justin Muturi, praised the community for resisting alleged vote-buying attempts.
“I am very encouraged by the response and assistance by the residents; they cannot sell their vote no matter the price,” Gachagua said, adding that he intends to remain in the constituency for nine more days to bolster Karish’s campaign.
With two powerful political camps now fully engaged, the Mbeere North by-election has evolved into a high-stakes test of grassroots mobilisation and regional influence.
