Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has declared that President William Ruto, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, and himself will form a formidable political alliance that will be unbeatable in the 2027 general elections. Speaking at the Kuria East Constituency Economic Forum in Migori County on Saturday, Kindiki expressed confidence in the strength of the emerging team, asserting that no opposition force could match their combined political weight.
“If you look at William Ruto, me, and now that we have His Excellency Raila Odinga on our team, do we look like people who can be defeated by those people during campaigns?” Kindiki posed rhetorically, drawing cheers from the audience.
Despite his political boldness, Kindiki clarified that the current focus of the Kenya Kwanza administration remains on service delivery and development. He insisted that campaigning would take a backseat until the right time.
“Let the campaign period reach and we will beat them then, but not now. Right now, we are working,” he stated.
The Deputy President called on leaders within the ruling coalition to remain focused and avoid complacency, reminding them that political office is temporary.
“Our group, led by President William Ruto, wants to pull up our socks because leadership is temporary, not permanent. Won’t everyone be a former at some point?” he asked.
In a veiled criticism directed at former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Kindiki accused unnamed leaders of misusing their time in office and now resorting to public lectures after falling out of favour.
He also took aim at the opposition, accusing them of lacking a genuine development agenda and only engaging with the public during election periods. He particularly criticised the practice of using token gestures to appeal to small-scale traders and boda boda riders.
“They usually wait for the election period… They look for an apron for Sh50 to lie to them. They look for boda boda riders and give them reflectors for Sh50 to trick them into voting,” he said.
Kindiki affirmed the government’s commitment to supporting the hustler economy year-round, not just during campaign seasons.
