Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki has hailed President William Ruto’s administration for delivering tangible development in the coastal region, affirming that the government’s broad-based approach is transforming lives and should be supported for a second term.
Speaking on Saturday during an Economic Empowerment Forum at Shelly Beach in Likoni Constituency, Mombasa County, Kindiki emphasized that the Kenya Kwanza administration had prioritized the coastal region’s economic revival, particularly through the blue economy.
“This is the only government that has invested billions to revive the blue economy. From day one, the President fulfilled his promise by returning port operations to Mombasa,” Kindiki said.
He noted that the appointment of coastal leaders such as Salim Mvurya and Ali Hassan Joho as Cabinet Secretaries for the Blue Economy demonstrates the administration’s commitment to inclusive development. He also highlighted ongoing projects like the construction of fish ports in Shimoni and Liwatoni, along with the anticipated arrival of deep-sea fishing vessels to boost local incomes.
Kindiki said Sh3.2 billion in grants has been channeled to Beach Management Units across the coastal counties, enhancing livelihoods in fishing communities. He also announced that the revamped Kazi Mtaani-Climate WorX program will be relaunched soon, with more vacancies allocated to Mombasa.
The Deputy President further cited the construction of modern markets, completion of the Dongo Kundu bridge, and the reactivation of Mtongwe Ferry services as clear evidence of progress. He urged residents to rally behind Ruto’s leadership for continued development.
“We are Team Kazi Bila Break, and our commander is President Ruto. Two terms mean more jobs, more healthcare under the Social Health Authority, better roads, and reliable electricity,” he stated.
Kindiki also dismissed critics calling for Ruto’s ouster, accusing them of lacking a development agenda.
“They talk of one term, but what did they achieve when they held power as Vice President, Deputy President, or senior Cabinet Secretaries? Nothing for Mombasa. They are driven by tribalism and should be rejected,” he concluded.
