Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has expressed confidence that President William Ruto will secure re-election in 2027, crediting the administration’s focus on national unity and inclusive development.
Speaking on Friday during the Shinyalu Economic Empowerment event at Mukumu Grounds in Kakamega County, Kindiki emphasized the government’s commitment to delivering on its promises. He said President Ruto’s leadership is centered on improving the lives of all Kenyans regardless of their ethnicity, region, or socio-economic background.
“We are working hard to make sure what we have started is accomplished before 2027,” Kindiki said. “We will return to you with a development scorecard as we seek a second term.”
The DP noted that the broad-based government, which includes support from former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, is focused on national interests rather than political theatrics. “We are all behind President Ruto and Raila Odinga under the broad-based government. We are focused on issues affecting all Kenyans,” he said.
Highlighting ongoing projects in Kakamega, Kindiki announced that Kakamega Referral Hospital is being upgraded to a Level 6 facility, with completion expected within six months. This follows President Ruto’s directive to fast-track construction and improve healthcare access.
In line with youth empowerment, the government has also released funds for the modernization of Bukhungu Stadium and is constructing new markets, including one in Khayega, to boost local trade. Affordable housing projects and the construction of student hostels at Masinde Muliro University and Sigalagala National Polytechnic are also underway.
Under the last-mile electricity program, Sh2.5 billion has been allocated to connect 26,000 new households in Kakamega. Kindiki stressed that electricity should not be a luxury for the wealthy, but a right for all.
He also affirmed the government’s commitment to reviving sugar factories and revitalizing the Kakamega gold sector, both crucial for regional economic growth.
Kindiki criticized the opposition for what he termed as engaging in tribal politics and lacking a credible development agenda. “Their work is to make noise from morning to evening,” he said.
He was joined by Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, and several MPs and leaders during the event.
