Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has affirmed the government’s commitment to equitable development in Ukambani, emphasizing that all regions of Kenya are integral to the national growth agenda. Speaking in Mwala, Machakos County, during an empowerment program, Kindiki assured residents that Ukambani will not be sidelined in the national development plan.
“We are developing this region as every part of our country because there is no part of the country that is not important,” Kindiki stated, highlighting ongoing infrastructure and social projects in the region.
His visit comes ahead of a planned tour by President William Ruto, with Kindiki taking the lead in preparing the ground and engaging communities through a series of empowerment meetings across Ukambani. In the past week, he has traversed constituencies including Machakos Town, Masinga, Kaiti, Kangundo, Kitui East, Kitui South, Kilome, and Kitui Central.
Kindiki urged local leaders to steer clear of divisive politics and focus on uniting for the sake of development. He emphasized that the government is committed to delivering progress without political discrimination and called on opposition leaders to join in national-building efforts.
“Every leader in this country, including those in opposition, has a responsibility to participate in nation-building. We should all unite in that endeavour because this is the time for development,” he said.
The Deputy President also revealed plans to consult with former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka to align efforts for the benefit of the region, underscoring the importance of unity in achieving faster and inclusive growth.
Through the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda, Kindiki noted that projects such as the Mwala-Kangundo Road, water supply initiatives, affordable housing in Masii, and the establishment of technical institutes are already in progress in Ukambani.
Pledging full support for President Ruto, Kindiki dismissed what he termed “useless politics,” saying his loyalty lies with the President and the Kenyan people.
“I am a Yes Man to the President and wananchi because they are my bosses,” he asserted.
Kindiki’s outreach signals the administration’s intent to win hearts in a region traditionally aligned with the opposition, with development as the central message.
