Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has warned the opposition against seeking power through violence. He said leadership in Kenya can only change hands through democratic elections, not chaos.
Speaking in Tharaka Nithi
On Tuesday, September 9, 2025, Kindiki addressed Meru County bodaboda operators and Al-Azizia Football Club players in Îrunduni, Tharaka Nithi County. He dismissed opposition slogans that appear to incite unrest.
“We will not allow you to ascend to power through violence and looting. Inciting youths and destroying property will not be tolerated. We are a business community and will defend our investments,” he said.
Violence is Not a Solution
The DP stressed that Kenya has strong democratic structures that give every citizen a fair chance to lead. He described violence as an extremist path that threatens peace and stability.
“The idea that violence can control politics is dangerous. Those pushing it only want power. They do not care about national security or peace,” Kindiki remarked.
Guarding Peace for the Future
Kindiki urged Kenyans to protect peace for future generations. He said no group should use chaos as a political tool.
“This country belongs to all of us. It must remain peaceful and sustainable for our children and those who come after us,” he stated.
Wait for the Next Election
According to the DP, elections offer everyone an equal chance. He said losing candidates must accept the results and prepare for the next contest.
“Politics is not enmity. It is a competition of ideas. If you win, serve the people. If you lose, wait for your chance,” he advised.
Focus on Service Delivery
Kindiki added that the ruling coalition will not be distracted by endless political fights. Instead, it will focus on development projects that benefit Kenyans.
“For now, we want to finish ongoing projects and launch new ones. That is our priority before politics,” he concluded.
