Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki is set to tour the ongoing construction of the Isiolo-Mandera road today, a 749-kilometre lifeline project aimed at improving connectivity and stimulating economic growth in Northern Kenya. Central to his inspection will be the 140-kilometre El Wak–Rhamu stretch, whose construction had been stalled due to security concerns.
The El Wak–Rhamu section is now back on track, thanks to a Sh27.5 billion ($215 million) loan from the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the government’s newly implemented security plan. The road, once complete, will boost trade, enhance mobility, and improve security in the largely underserved region.
Following the inspection, CS Kindiki will proceed to Nakuru County to officially launch the Second Kenya Devolution Support Program (KDSP II) at the Enashipai Resort. Funded by the World Bank, KDSP II is a four-year initiative focused on strengthening governance systems, enhancing institutional capacity, and improving service delivery across counties. The program is coordinated by the State Department for Devolution in collaboration with various agencies and will be attended by county governors.
Meanwhile, Parliament is also busy today, with the National Assembly’s Administration and Internal Security Committee set to meet Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen, police bosses, and oversight authorities. The session aims to address the planned recruitment of 10,000 police officers amid a Sh320 million budget cut affecting the police service.
In Nairobi, Lands and Housing CS Alice Wahome will visit the New Mukuru Boma Yangu Estate, where homeowners are moving into affordable housing units. She will address the media at 11 a.m. at the Mukuru Met Social Housing site to provide updates on the Affordable Housing Programme.
Additionally, the Committee on Sports and Culture will engage Head of Public Service Felix Koskei over rising illegal gaming activities, while the Committee on Delegated Legislation will meet Transport CS Davis Chirchir to deliberate on the 2024 air accident regulations.
These concurrent events mark a significant day in the country’s governance and development agenda.
