Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has called on the opposition to embrace politics as a peaceful contest of ideas rather than a source of enmity. Speaking during a function in Kiambaa on Sunday, Kindiki emphasized that the democratic process should foster unity and not division, urging political players to accept outcomes and focus on service delivery.
“Politics is not enmity. It is a competition of ideas, and if you are elected, you thank God and serve the people. If you lose, you wait for the next opportunity and give it a try,” Kindiki said.
The Deputy President underscored the Kenya Kwanza administration’s commitment to fulfilling its mandate, warning that it will not be distracted by premature political campaigns. He reiterated that the government remains focused on delivering its promises and improving the lives of Kenyans before engaging in 2027 politics.
“When the time comes, we will delve fully into politics because we know we are the best at it. For now, we don’t want to lose focus. We want to complete ongoing projects and start others for the benefit of the people,” he stated.
Kindiki added that when the campaign period officially opens, Kenya Kwanza will face the electorate with a performance scorecard, highlighting the progress made across the country.
“It will be time for everyone to present their agenda, including our opponents who have previously held influential positions,” he said.
Kindiki was accompanied by key government officials and politicians, including ICT Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo, Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah, Principal Secretary Mary Muthoni, and several Members of Parliament from Kiambu and beyond.
The DP’s remarks come amid heightened political tensions in the country, as sections of the opposition demand reforms and accountability from the government. However, Kindiki’s message was clear: the time for politics will come, but for now, leaders should focus on service to the people.
His comments were widely viewed as a call for political maturity and a reminder that Kenya’s democracy thrives on peaceful competition and respect for the rule of law.
