Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki has stated that Kenya is heading into the next general elections with two distinct political camps one focused on unity and development under President William Ruto, and another which he accused of promoting disunity and empty rhetoric.
Speaking at Jomvu Primary School in Mombasa County during the Women Economic Empowerment Programme, Prof. Kindiki asserted that the ruling Kenya Kwanza administration is spearheading transformative development across the country. He said the government is committed to uniting Kenyans beyond tribal lines and political affiliations.
“There are those who occupied big offices but were chased from government because of tribalism and empty talks,” Kindiki said in reference to some opposition leaders. “They squandered their opportunities while in office and have no agenda for Kenyans.”
He further accused the opposition of attempting to sabotage government programmes such as the issuance of national identity cards. “The difference is like day and night. One team is focused on building the country, while the other is bent on derailing progress,” he added.
Highlighting ongoing projects, Kindiki pointed to the expansion of the road network, the affordable housing programme, establishment of ICT hubs, climate adaptation projects under Climate worX, and overseas job opportunities for youth as part of the Kenya Kwanza administration’s achievements.
The DP assured Mombasa residents that stalled infrastructure projects in the region would be revived and completed. He cited the revival of operations at the Mombasa Port a campaign promise fulfilled by President Ruto as a major milestone in the region’s economic development.
Additionally, Kindiki mentioned the establishment of Special Economic Zones in the coastal region, which he said would stimulate job creation and attract investment.
He called on Kenyans to rally behind the government’s development agenda and reject leaders who seek power through divisive politics. “It is time to build a Kenya where every region, including the Coast, enjoys the benefits of economic transformation,” he said.
Prof. Kindiki’s remarks signal the beginning of a heated political season, with clear lines being drawn ahead of the 2027 general elections.
