Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki has vowed to remain in Mbeere North, Embu County, until the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) secures victory in the upcoming by-election. Speaking during a high-profile elders’ meeting at Siakago Girls’ Grounds, Kindiki emphasized the government’s commitment to a fair electoral process, assuring residents that the by-election will be free from state interference.
The by-election follows the appointment of former MP Hon. Geoffrey Ruku as the Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Human Capital Development, and Special Programmes. Kindiki praised local elders for rallying behind a pro-government candidate and urged voters to support UDA as a show of confidence in the government’s ongoing development efforts in the region.
“I will camp in Mbeere until UDA wins. The government has returned a Cabinet position to this region. The people of Mbeere should reciprocate by voting for a government-backed candidate. Don’t let me down,” Kindiki told the crowd.
Currently, eight aspirants have expressed interest in vying for the UDA ticket. The Deputy President assured them of a transparent nomination process and encouraged unity among candidates. He also pledged that those who do not clinch the ticket will still be considered for government appointments.
Kindiki was accompanied by CS Ruku, who underscored the administration’s commitment to transformative development in the area. Ruku noted that the government has initiated several major projects, including road upgrades, irrigation schemes, and rural electrification.
The event, known as the 5600 Elders Baraza, convened over 5,600 elders to discuss Mbeere North’s development and political future. The elders endorsed the government’s development agenda and pledged to maintain close collaboration to ensure project implementation.
Key projects highlighted included the resumption of construction on the Kanyuambora–Kamumu–Kageri and Gikuyari–Kirie–Ishiara roads, and expansion of the Kanyuambora and Kamata irrigation schemes.
Kindiki concluded by affirming that the government has secured adequate funding to complete all previously stalled projects by 2027, signaling the administration’s strong focus on delivering results in Mbeere North.
