Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has pledged to execute his duties with unwavering commitment, comparing his determination to the relentless speed of a miraa (khat) delivery vehicle. Speaking in Limuru, Kiambu County on Friday, Kindiki affirmed his readiness to support President William Ruto in fulfilling the Kenya Kwanza government’s development agenda.
“Hii kazi nimepewa kama Deputy President nitaisukuma kama gari ya miraa,” said Kindiki, using a popular analogy to stress his zeal. “I have been tasked to help the President improve roads in Kiambu, markets, electricity connection, and the milk business and I will deliver.”
Kindiki reflected on his previous role as Interior Cabinet Secretary, highlighting his dedication during that period. “For two years, I lived in Boni Forest. I would only come to Nairobi in the evening and return the next day. When I left there, I went to Shakahola, North Eastern to deal with al-Shabaab, then to Laikipia, Baringo and Turkana to confront bandits. I did my job well and have no regrets.”
The Deputy President emphasized that public office is a responsibility, not a status symbol, and cautioned leaders against arrogance. “Getting a leadership role does not make you more important than others. It’s a God-given opportunity to serve the people, not to feel superior.”
Kindiki further urged all public servants to work for the good of the people, reminding them that leadership should be anchored in humility and service. “If the people entrust you with leadership, serve them diligently. That is your purpose.”
He was accompanied by National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah, Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot, Limuru MP John Kiragu, Kiambu Woman Representative Anne Muratha, Thika Town MP Alice Ng’ang’a, MCAs, and representatives from small-scale businesses.
Kindiki’s remarks signal a new phase of political assertiveness as he steps firmly into his role as Deputy President following the fallout between President Ruto and former DP Rigathi Gachagua.
