DP President Prof. Kithure Kindiki has strongly condemned recent acts of violence and lawlessness witnessed during anti-government protests, calling out leaders who appear to celebrate the chaos. Speaking during a youth, women, and small-scale traders’ empowerment forum in Mitaboni Grounds, Kathiani Constituency, Machakos County, Kindiki expressed shock over what he termed as the glorification of destruction and criminality.
“I am shocked to see some politicians celebrating the kind of destruction, rape, and lawlessness we all saw on Wednesday,” Kindiki said. “There are many people who woke up with businesses and possessions but ended the day as paupers after looters torched and vandalized their premises.”
The Deputy President underscored the need for all Kenyans including political and religious leaders, as well as the international community to take a firm stance in defense of peace and the rule of law. “The lines are clearly drawn: those who support a safe and secure nation, and those cheering anarchy,” he said.
Kindiki assured the public that the government would not violate constitutional freedoms but warned that individuals who exploit protests to loot, destroy property, or harm others would face the full force of the law. “There is a difference between democracy and anarchy. We will not sit back and watch criminals destabilize this nation,” he warned.
He emphasized that upholding peace and security may cost the government popularity, but preserving national stability is non-negotiable. “We would rather lose popularity than allow Kenya to disintegrate under the control of goons and anarchists,” he stated.
Kindiki also reiterated the government’s openness to dialogue with citizens across the country, saying ongoing empowerment forums serve not just as platforms for economic support, but also as avenues to listen and address people’s concerns.
“We are a listening government,” he noted. “We will continue engaging with all Kenyans, especially the youth, who have made it clear they want to inherit a united and prosperous nation.”
The Cabinet Secretary concluded by affirming the administration’s commitment to fighting corruption and improving service delivery, placing citizens at the heart of governance reforms.
