A police constable stationed at Ngobit Police Station in Laikipia Central has been arrested after he was found in possession of stolen police uniforms, equipment, and exhibits believed to belong to his colleagues.
The suspect, identified as Police Constable Mohamud Adow, was apprehended following a thorough search at his residence conducted by officers led by the station’s Officer Commanding Station (OCS) Gideon Kamitu and his deputy Lilly Kambura.
According to a police report seen by Citizen Digital, the operation was prompted by intelligence reports suggesting that the officer was hoarding government property. The search yielded a significant cache of police gear, raising serious questions about the constable’s intentions.
Among the items recovered were three Angola shirts, five China blue sweaters, two jungle green sweaters, three China blue shirts, four jungle hats, six navy blue shirts, three navy blue trousers, four jungle trousers, and four jungle jackets. Also found were two jungle T-shirts, two additional jungle jackets, three China blue raincoats, one navy blue raincoat, and a police flag.
Further discoveries included a 58-pattern band, three jungle belts, three navy blue police belts, three blue lanyards, one AK-47 pouch, a body armour vest, and one exhibit claw hammer. Police indicated that some officers at the station were able to positively identify items they had previously reported missing.
The recovered items have since been placed in the station’s Quartermaster (QM) store for proper documentation and safekeeping as investigations continue. Authorities are treating the case with utmost seriousness due to the sensitive nature of the items involved, some of which could potentially be misused for impersonation or criminal activities.
Disciplinary proceedings and further legal action are expected to follow as the National Police Service seeks to uphold integrity and accountability within its ranks. The motive behind the theft remains unclear, but the incident has sparked renewed calls for stricter oversight of police inventory and internal security protocols.
The arrest marks a significant step toward addressing internal misconduct within the police service and ensuring that officers entrusted with public safety uphold the highest standards of conduct.
