The Ministry of Lands has strongly refuted allegations that senior government officials colluded to grab the contested Kibiko land in Kajiado County, a dispute valued at over Ksh2 billion.
This comes a day after locals staged protests outside former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s Karen home, demanding his intervention in the matter. Protesters carried placards reading “Korir Must Go!”, “Baba Help Us”, and “Justice for the Maasai Community”, accusing Lands Principal Secretary Nixon Korir and Kajiado West MP George Sunkuyia of involvement in the saga.
In a statement issued by Jibril Adan, Head of Communications at the Ministry of Lands, the ministry dismissed the accusations as “malicious and unfounded.”
“The recent allegations made by the Kajiado County Executive Committee Member and a group that staged a protest in Nairobi are purely malicious and meant to hoodwink the public,” the statement read.
According to the Ministry, the dispute dates back to 2014 between the Keekonyike Community Trust and other claimants. The matter has been handled through a series of legal petitions over the years.
In March 2025, the court ordered the title deed of the contested land to be surrendered to the courts pending final determination. By July 2025, the case was officially closed, and the Ministry confirmed that new title deeds are now being processed in line with the court ruling.
“The courts have been handling this matter since 2014. Any aggrieved party has the right to seek redress through the judiciary,” the Ministry emphasized.
The statement further accused the Kajiado County Government of fueling tensions by politicizing the issue and inciting locals. It urged the public to treat attempts to taint the image of government officials as baseless and dishonest.
The Ministry’s response now shifts the spotlight back to the courts as the rightful avenue for resolving the Kibiko land dispute, which has dragged on for more than a decade.
