Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina has firmly dismissed any prospects of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua winning political support from the Maa community. In a strongly worded statement on X, the outspoken senator insisted that the Maa region will stand solidly behind President William Ruto and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga in the 2027 General Election.
Ole Kina’s remarks came in the wake of a visit by over 500 grassroots leaders from the Maa community to Gachagua’s Wamunyoro residence on June 23, 2025. During the meeting, Gachagua announced the upcoming launch of his new political outfit, the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), set for July 7.
However, Ole Kina dismissed the delegation as politically inconsequential. “We have a few perennial losers who paid a courtesy call to an impeached individual named Riggy G. Get it from me, Maasai votes are intact and will fully support President William Ruto and Raila Odinga,” he posted.
The senator further rebutted suggestions by former presidential candidate James Ole Kiyapi that his position could be challenged in 2027, declaring that his political future remains secure and unshaken.
The ODM–UDA cooperation agreement signed in March 2025 appears to be taking root, with growing signs it could transform into a formal pre-election coalition. Several senior ODM officials have already endorsed President Ruto for a second term, signaling a significant political realignment ahead of the next polls.
Gachagua, on his part, accused the government of sabotaging his Nairobi launch plans, claiming the Kasarani Indoor Arena booking—made for over Sh3.7 million—was cancelled under unclear circumstances. He has since relocated the DCP launch to the Maa region, appealing to local leaders to host and secure the event.
“This DCP party is yours. I ask you to find a private venue and ensure the launch is successful,” Gachagua urged the cheering crowd.
As the 2027 race gathers momentum, the battle for regional support continues to reveal deepening rifts within Kenya’s political landscape.
