Kenyan magistrate has captured the attention of many after showing rare compassion to an accused person during court proceedings. A video clip obtained by Kenyans.co.ke shows Magistrate Ekhubi engaging the accused in a lighthearted but deeply human exchange that quickly went viral online.
The incident occurred when the magistrate inquired about the welfare of the accused, who is currently being held at Industrial Area Remand Prison.
“In custody, you are okay? Are you eating well?” the magistrate asked.
The accused responded that while he was being treated fairly, he was at that moment very hungry. The response prompted the magistrate to order that the man be given food and even directed that he should be taken to the hospital for medical assessment on Wednesday, October 1, 2025.
During the hearing, the accused who claimed to be a 20-year-old matatu driver from Umoja—admitted he did not possess an identification card. He explained that he had just completed a seven-year sentence at Kamiti Maximum Prison and had been promised his ID upon release, but had yet to receive it.
Adding a touch of humor to the courtroom, the accused entertained those present with his comical attempts to calculate the percentage cost of bread and milk. His lighthearted answers left the gallery in stitches, offering a rare moment of laughter in an otherwise serious setting.
The accused has since denied the charges against him, with the magistrate setting the next hearing for Thursday, October 9.
