Police in Kisumu County have seized a substantial quantity of cannabis sativa in a major operation aimed at curbing the drug trade in the region. The successful June 1 raid in Alendu Village, Kochieng West Location, was carried out by officers from Rabuor Police Station following a tip-off from vigilant residents.
The targeted operation focused on a suspect’s homestead, where law enforcement officers discovered three large sacks filled with multiple rolls of the illegal substance. The cannabis has since been secured as evidence, and authorities have launched further investigations to establish the full scope of the case.
While police have not confirmed whether the suspect was apprehended during the raid, the National Police Service (NPS) lauded the public for their cooperation, emphasizing that community involvement is key in the fight against drug-related crime. The NPS reiterated its commitment to intelligence-led operations and assured the public of sustained crackdowns to disrupt and dismantle drug networks in the region and beyond.
“We maintain a zero-tolerance stance on narcotics and will continue similar crackdowns across the country,” a police spokesperson stated. The NPS also urged residents to continue reporting suspicious activity through anonymous tip-off channels to help stem the tide of drug trafficking.
This operation in Kisumu is part of a broader nationwide effort by the government to combat the proliferation of illicit drugs and alcohol. The initiative comes in response to rising public health and security concerns linked to the illegal production, distribution, and consumption of narcotics and unregulated brews.
Just weeks earlier, on May 17, a similar operation in Nairobi’s Karen area led to the arrest of two men in possession of 40 kilograms of cannabis. Police also recovered 203 rolls of bhang, 100 packets of razzlers, a rolling flag, and Sh1,400 in cash.
These coordinated actions underscore the government’s resolve to tackle the drug menace head-on through multi-agency cooperation and sustained community engagement. As investigations continue, Kisumu residents are being called upon to remain vigilant and actively support efforts to safeguard their communities from the harmful impacts of narcotics.
