Mumias East Member of Parliament Peter Salasya’s lighthearted search for love has taken an interesting turn after Mama Ida Odinga, the wife of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, promised to help him find a life partner.
The youthful MP made the appeal during his visit to Opoda Farm in Siaya County on Friday, where he jokingly asked Mama Ida to help him find a woman as “good and beautiful” as she is.
“Nakuomba wewe mimi kama kijana mdogo, wakati nataka kuoa bibi, nipate bibi kama wewe,” Salasya said, drawing laughter and applause from those present.
He went on to express his desire to have a private conversation with Mama Ida, saying he had “many things to share.”
In a warm and humorous response, Mama Ida accepted the request, promising to take the task seriously.
“Ile ombi yako nimesikia. Amesema anataka msichana kutoka hapa nimchagulie. Hiyo siwezi kuchukua for granted. Daughters of Raila, nitachunguza sawasawa,” she said, referring to the group of women from Suba West who attended the event.
Her words were met with cheers from the “Daughters of Raila,” who welcomed the idea with excitement and laughter.
Mama Ida emphasized that she would ensure Salasya finds a suitable match among the women she knows, promising to personally look into the matter.
This is not the first time the first-term MP has publicly spoken about his desire to settle down. In a 2022 interview with The Standard, Salasya said he was looking for a God-fearing, supportive, and focused woman who could stand by him in his political career.
“I am just looking for a very prayerful woman, a very young girl, a focused girl, a supportive girl, presentable and able to speak to people in the countryside,” he said then.
While the youthful legislator maintains he is in no rush, Mama Ida’s promise may finally lead him one step closer to finding his ideal match.
