Former Chief Justice David Maraga has reiterated his commitment to transparency and accountability as he embarks on a people-driven campaign to fund his 2027 presidential bid. In a statement dated July 23, 2025, Maraga expressed heartfelt gratitude to thousands of Kenyans who have already offered their time, resources, and energy in support of the initiative.
Describing the campaign as “unprecedented” and “citizen-led,” Maraga emphasized that the movement is grounded in integrity and constitutional principles. “We kicked off a people-driven campaign that is continuing to grow. The people’s call for us to provide a space for public contributions grows louder,” he said.
Maraga said the campaign is not driven by a pursuit of perfection but by courage and hope, aiming to challenge the country’s historically “predatory campaign politics.” He stressed that the initiative would be rooted in complete transparency, responsible stewardship, and respect for data privacy and user information.
Technical safeguards have been integrated into the fundraising platform to protect users, and while the digital infrastructure is still being scaled, Maraga’s team has asked for patience during periods of system maintenance and upgrades.
Beyond fundraising, the campaign also aims to engage Kenyans in shaping policy direction. A feedback mechanism is being developed to crowdsource public opinion on key manifesto issues. “We are collecting feedback on policy priorities from Kenyans, which will inform the campaign’s manifesto,” Maraga stated.
The former CJ highlighted that the initiative represents more than a financial drive—it is a civic call to action. “This campaign is a reminder that the Kenyan spirit is well and truly alive,” he said, noting that a framework to harness volunteer talent and deepen citizen engagement will be unveiled soon.
Maraga concluded by expressing deep honour in sharing this journey with the public, reaffirming his belief that collective action can shape a more accountable and inclusive future for Kenya.
