Former Chief Justice David Maraga has made a strong entry into the 2027 presidential race, raising over Sh500,000 in just 48 hours through his newly launched campaign website, davidmaraga.com. The digital platform allows Kenyans to contribute as little as Sh50, signaling what Maraga calls a “people-powered” approach to transforming the country.
Speaking in an interview with Citizen TV, Maraga described the online initiative as a key part of his campaign strategy, aimed at “Resetting, Restoring, and Rebuilding Kenya.” He noted that the early response from Kenyans, both locally and in the diaspora, was a clear indication of the public’s hunger for change and accountable leadership.
“We had more than Sh500,000 in two days from Kenyans at home. Those in the diaspora have also sent dollars. That tells you Kenyans want change,” Maraga said.
He emphasized that he will largely depend on public contributions to fund his presidential bid, pledging to personally contribute only a modest amount between Sh1 million and Sh2 million. “I don’t have much money. This campaign is about ordinary Kenyans, not political financiers,” he added.
The website requires contributors to submit their name, phone number, email address, and donation amount. According to Maraga, the funds will be used for grassroots mobilization, town hall engagements, digital outreach, and building a robust volunteer network across the country.
To ensure transparency, Maraga promised strict accountability, assuring that every cent would be tracked and reported. “If we raise more than we need, any excess will be given to a public cause,” he said.
Maraga, who served as Kenya’s Chief Justice from 2016 to 2021, is positioning himself as a principled leader committed to professionalism and competence in governance. He said his administration would avoid patronage and ensure all public servants are qualified and results-driven.
“Every public servant must earn their place and deliver results. We will not run a government of rewards and cronies,” Maraga stated.
As the 2027 elections approach, Maraga’s tech-driven and transparent campaign model is likely to set him apart in a political landscape long dominated by moneyed interests and opaque fundraising
