Former Chief Justice David Maraga has officially entered the 2027 presidential race, unveiling a grassroots campaign that kicks off with a three-day county tour in August. Under the banner of “Reset. Restore. Rebuild,” Maraga aims to present a reformist agenda rooted in justice, integrity, and servant leadership.
The tour, themed under the hashtag #ThePeopleShall, begins in Kirinyaga County on August 1, followed by Meru on August 2, and Isiolo on August 3. According to Maraga, these visits represent the beginning of a people-centered campaign designed to connect directly with citizens in often overlooked regions.
“See you in the great counties of Kirinyaga, Meru, and Isiolo!” Maraga said in a statement posted with his tour itinerary.
Maraga, remembered for his landmark 2017 Supreme Court decision that annulled the presidential election, is now seeking to reshape Kenya’s political landscape by appealing to the electorate’s desire for accountable and transparent governance. His campaign strategy embraces digital tools and grassroots mobilization, hallmarks of a movement he says will remain people-driven.
The campaign has also launched a sleek official website davidmaraga.com offering detailed information about his platform, upcoming events, and campaign activities. The site emphasizes transparency, civic engagement, and issue-based politics.
In a bid to remain independent of elite political financing, Maraga has opened up a public fundraising platform, allowing Kenyans to contribute as little as Sh50 toward his presidential bid. Launched on July 19, the platform invites contributors to provide basic details name, phone number, and email along with an optional message of support.
“I will appeal to Kenyans to contribute to the campaigns. I’ll put in very little money, around Sh1 million or Sh2 million. I don’t have much money,” Maraga told Citizen TV, underlining his intention to build a campaign funded by ordinary citizens.
With his county tour and digital outreach gaining momentum, Maraga’s entry sets the stage for a potentially transformative political contest ahead of the 2027 General Election.
