Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i has called on Kenyan youth to take up leadership roles as the nation gears up for the 2027 General Election. In a message shared on his X account on October 12, 2025, Matiang’i emphasized the crucial role of young people in shaping Kenya’s future.
“To the youth, you are the pillar on which our nation stands. Step forward and take up spaces of leadership. Serve your country with courage and vision and leave a mark that shapes the destiny of our nation,” he stated.
Matiang’i, who served in various key ministries including Education and ICT, reiterated his commitment to national service, expressing concern over the current state of the education sector. “I’m surprised that when I served as Education Minister, the first budget allocation always went to education. I can’t understand what is happening now schools are closing after three weeks because there is no capitation,” he remarked.
Positioning himself as a reform-driven leader, Matiang’i assured Kenyans that he would deliver a transformative government if elected president in 2027. “If I were so favoured and blessed to get the opportunity to serve this nation as president, I pledge that I will never let you down,” he said during a youth mentorship event.
Highlighting his role in Kenya’s digital migration, Matiang’i said the move unlocked opportunities for thousands of youth in the digital space. “That fight opened doors for thousands of youth. Imagine if we hadn’t made that move where would we be today?” he added.
After months of speculation, Matiang’i has officially joined the Jubilee Party, accepting an invitation from former President Uhuru Kenyatta. “I am openly declaring that I have joined Jubilee. It’s time to strengthen and rebuild the party,” he said during a meeting with the Abagusii community in Mavoko, Machakos County.
Through his renewed political engagement, Matiang’i is positioning himself as a key contender for the presidency—championing youth empowerment, integrity, and effective governance.
