The Mbeere elders have officially endorsed a pro-government candidate for the upcoming by-election in Mbeere North parliamentary seat, signaling strong support for the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and its development agenda. The endorsement came during a major gathering at Siakago Girls’ Grounds in Embu County, where over 5,600 elders, representing the region, met to discuss the political future of Mbeere North.
In a unified voice, the elders expressed their full backing for the ruling party, vowing to mobilize the community in support of a UDA candidate. Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki, who attended the event, praised the elders for their unity and assured them that the government would not interfere with the democratic process of the by-election. He emphasized that the people of Mbeere would be free to choose their leader without coercion but encouraged them to back the UDA candidate to ensure accelerated regional development.
Prof. Kindiki also announced the resumption of key infrastructure projects, which had been delayed due to previous budget constraints. These include the tarmacking of the Kanyuambora-Kamumu-Kageri road, expansion of irrigation schemes, rural electrification, and the upgrade of the Gikuyari-Kirie-Ishiara road. The Deputy President committed to completing these projects by 2027, reassuring the community of the government’s continued focus on their development.
The by-election follows the appointment of the region’s former MP, Geoffrey Ruku, to the Cabinet as the Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Human Capital Development, and Special Programmes. His appointment is seen as a proud moment for the Mbeere community, known for its professional expertise but often marginalized in national politics.
With eight aspirants vying for the UDA ticket, the party will conduct transparent nominations. Prof. Kindiki urged unity, assuring those not selected would still be considered for government positions. The election date, yet to be set by the IEBC, will determine the next political chapter for Mbeere North.
