Suba North Member of Parliament Millie Odhiambo has dismissed allegations of a possible rift within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), attributing recent remarks by Winnie Odinga to personal grief rather than internal party conflict.
Speaking on Monday, November 17, 2025, during an interview with a local media house, Millie Odhiambo emphasized that there is no “war” within ODM. She noted that the public and media might be misunderstanding Winnie Odinga’s recent statements.
“When you said the war within your headlines regarding Winnie, I don’t even think it is a war within ODM; I think one of the things that people are misunderstanding about Winnie is that we want to make Odinga superhuman,” Millie said.
Millie elaborated on the depth of grief Winnie is experiencing following the loss of her father, Raila Odinga, who she described as someone Winnie adored and accompanied almost everywhere. “Grief is something deep for a person you love, for a person who mattered to me,” Millie added. She urged Kenyans to understand Winnie’s grieving season and allow her the space to heal.
The remarks come after Winnie Odinga called for a fresh National Delegates Conference (NDC) within ODM to determine who should manage the party’s relationship with the Kenya Kwanza government. Winnie explained that the responsibility had previously rested solely with her late father due to its complexity and stressed that party members should collectively decide on future leadership in this regard.
“I want to tell party leaders that when it came to the matter of the broad-based government, the people of ODM had entrusted only one person with the management of that relationship, and that person was Raila Odinga,” Winnie said during ODM’s 20th anniversary celebrations in Mombasa.
By calling for a fresh NDC, Winnie Odinga aims to ensure that leadership roles and strategic responsibilities are handled transparently and according to party structures, rather than creating room for speculation about internal conflicts.
