Suba North Member of Parliament Millie Odhiambo has condemned individuals who spread false information about the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s health before his death, saying that while they will be forgiven as Christians, they will never be forgotten.
Speaking during Raila’s funeral service at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology on Sunday, Millie recounted her final conversation with the ODM leader. She revealed that Raila appeared strong and in good spirits shortly before his passing.
“I talked to Raila on Monday evening when he was with Adhiambo. I want to confirm that he said ODM needs to be united as a party,” she said. “When I asked him, ‘Baba, how are you?’ he told me jokingly, ‘Amilo, I’m fine. I even walked around this morning. I’m surprised there are people who have already killed and buried me in Kenya.’”
Millie criticised those who circulated false rumours about Raila’s health, noting that such actions caused unnecessary distress to his family and supporters. “For those who killed and buried Raila before his time, because we are Christians, we will forgive you but we will never forget. For those who stood with Raila, we shall never forget. I thank President William Ruto,” she added.
Raila Odinga passed away in India after suffering cardiac arrest while receiving treatment. Before his death, his health had been the subject of intense public speculation, prompting reassurances from his brother, Senator Oburu Odinga, and the ODM party that he was recuperating well.
During the service, Mama Ida Odinga delivered a moving tribute, saying she had never imagined she would be the one to bury her husband. “With pain, without lamentation, I accept the will of God,” she said.
Raila is remembered as a symbol of resistance, reform, and democracy — a man whose decades-long struggle reshaped Kenya’s political landscape and inspired generations.
