Nyali Member of Parliament Mohammed Ali, popularly known as Jicho Pevu, has issued a defiant statement to his political critics, vowing to resist any attempts to impose leadership in Mombasa ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking on Friday, Ali reaffirmed his commitment to serving the people of Nyali while warning that when the time is right, he will confront any political schemes head-on. His remarks come amid growing speculation about his future political ambitions and his recent low public profile.
“Nobody can control me. Allow me to serve the people of Nyali first. But in 2027, look at my face well the direction we shall take as the people of Mombasa, we are not afraid of anything,” Ali declared.
The MP criticized what he described as a brewing alliance of political cartels and behind-the-scenes power brokers attempting to dictate Mombasa’s future leadership. He made it clear that he will not bow to pressure from political godfathers or align himself with powerful coalitions seeking to dominate the coastal county’s politics.
“Whether we will have a combination of cartels against me, Mohammed Ali, ‘small’ men or women who want to impose leaders on us we will face them head-on when the time comes,” he said.
Ali also addressed his silence in recent months, stating that his absence from the political scene was due to personal health challenges, not fear or political hesitation.
“I have been very quiet for the last nine months. Some think I fear making my political stand. When you are sick, other things can wait; my health comes first. But I will always be on the side of the people,” he explained.
A former investigative journalist turned politician, Ali reiterated his commitment to transparency, accountability, and people-centered leadership. As 2027 approaches, his bold stance suggests he could play a significant role in reshaping Mombasa’s political landscape potentially eyeing a bigger role beyond Nyali constituency.
